Editorial Policy

Our Commitment to Editorial Integrity

NewsPrism.co.uk is built on the principle that readers deserve reporting they can trust. Every piece of content we publish — whether a breaking news brief, a deep-dive explainer, a features piece, an opinion column, a product review or a sponsored article — is shaped by a rigorous editorial process designed to ensure accuracy, fairness, independence and transparency. This Editorial Policy sets out the standards and procedures that govern everything we produce, and we expect every member of the editorial team, contributor and commercial partner to uphold them without exception. We are committed to correcting mistakes promptly, disclosing conflicts of interest clearly, and being open about how our journalism is funded and produced. If you have questions about any aspect of our editorial practice, we encourage you to contact our Editor-in-Chief, Victoria Harcourt, at victoria.harcourt@newsprism.co.uk.

Editorial Process: Review Before Publication

No article, brief, analysis or opinion piece appears on NewsPrism.co.uk without being reviewed by a qualified editor. Our standard editorial workflow — overseen by Managing Editor Henry Wallace — ensures that every submission is checked for factual accuracy, legal compliance, clarity, tone and alignment with our editorial standards before it is scheduled for publication. The commissioning editor works with the writer to refine the piece, verify sources and ensure all necessary context is included.

For stories that involve heightened risk or sensitivity, we operate a mandatory additional review stage. The following categories of content are always escalated to our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Oliver Reeves, for extra scrutiny before publication:

  • Political reporting and analysis, including coverage of elections, legislation, government policy and political accountability
  • Legal matters, including ongoing litigation, regulatory actions, court rulings and criminal proceedings
  • Crime and safety reporting, including incidents involving police, emergency services, public safety or security
  • Health-related stories, including medical claims, public health guidance, pharmaceutical developments and wellbeing advice
  • Financial claims, including investment advice, economic forecasts, market analysis, consumer finance guidance and company valuations
  • Stories involving minors, including any content that names, images or identifies individuals under the age of 18
  • Privacy-sensitive reporting, including stories that involve personal data, confidential sources, workplace disputes or harassment allegations
  • Rights issues, including coverage of discrimination, human rights, equality, asylum, immigration and civil liberties

Oliver Reeves reviews source materials, checks attributions, verifies data, and may request additional corroboration or legal advice before sign-off. This two-tier system ensures that even under tight deadlines, sensitive content receives the attention it deserves.

Clear Distinction Between Content Types

We are committed to ensuring that readers can always tell the difference between independent journalism, opinion, sponsored material and promotional content. Every article on NewsPrism.co.uk is clearly labelled by type:

  • News — factual reporting of events, developments and announcements, grounded in verifiable sources and presented without editorial bias.
  • Analysis and explainers — context-driven pieces that help readers understand the background, implications and multiple perspectives on a story, based on expert sourcing and evidence.
  • Opinion and commentary — pieces that represent the views of the named author, clearly labelled as Opinion or Commentary, and distinct from our news reporting.
  • Reviews — assessments of products, services, events, media or experiences, based on direct use or attendance by the writer, and labelled with a Reviews tag.
  • Sponsored content — material funded by a commercial partner, clearly marked with a Sponsored label at the top of the article and in the metadata. No sponsor has any influence over editorial conclusions or news coverage.
  • Affiliate content — articles that include affiliate links, disclosed in accordance with our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure. These links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to readers, but they never affect editorial recommendations or coverage decisions.
  • Promotional material — content produced in partnership with a commercial entity, clearly labelled as Promoted or Paid Promotion, and distinct from independent editorial content.

Article-Level Transparency

Every article published on NewsPrism.co.uk carries a set of transparency markers that allow readers to understand who wrote it, when it was published and updated, and what editorial oversight it received. Specifically, each article includes:

  • A clear bylines linking to the author’s profile page, where readers can learn about their expertise, background and areas of coverage. See Our Team for the full editorial roster.
  • Publication date and, where applicable, a last-updated date to indicate when the article was reviewed or revised.
  • An editor/reviewer label naming the editor who handled the piece, and for sensitive stories, note of additional review by the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead.
  • Source references throughout the text, including links to original documents, public records, studies, press releases or other source materials where possible.
  • Disclosures of any press access, event attendance, travel arrangements, product samples or other commercial relationships related to the story. If a writer attended a press conference, received a review sample, or was hosted by an organisation, that is stated in the article.
  • A correction note linked to our Corrections Policy if the article has been amended after publication. Correction notes explain what changed, why, and when.

Experience Signals: How We Know What We Report

We believe readers deserve to know the basis on which a story is reported. Where relevant, our articles state explicitly whether the coverage is based on:

  • A public meeting attended by the writer
  • An interview conducted by the writer (named where possible, or attributed on condition of anonymity where necessary)
  • A site visit by the writer
  • A government or parliamentary document, public record or official data release
  • A press conference attended by the writer
  • An official press release or statement from a recognised organisation
  • A verified social post from a public figure or official account
  • A product, service or event reviewed directly by the writer

These signals help readers assess the weight and reliability of the information presented. They are part of our broader commitment to source transparency, detailed further in our Sources & Standards page.

Editorial Independence

NewsPrism.co.uk is wholly owned by Prism House Media Ltd., a private limited company registered in England and Wales. Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial relationships. No advertiser, sponsor, partner or stakeholder has any influence over what we cover, how we cover it, or what conclusions we reach. For full details of our ownership structure and funding model, see Ownership & Funding. For our policies on advertising and affiliate content, see Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and Sponsored Content Policy. All sponsored and commercial material is clearly labelled, and our editorial team retains final authority over all content decisions.

Use of AI and Automation

We use digital tools — including AI-based systems — to support certain aspects of our editorial workflow, such as research, editing, formatting, transcription, headline generation and metadata creation. However, all editorial content published on NewsPrism.co.uk is reviewed and approved by a human editor before it appears. We have a strict policy that AI must never be used to fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, author experience or expert profiles. For a full explanation of how we use AI and automation, please read our AI & Automation Policy.

Attribution and Named Writers

We attribute every piece of editorial content to a named writer or, in exceptional circumstances (such as security or privacy concerns), to a verified pseudonym that is registered with the editor. Anonymous or pseudonymous content is never used for opinion or news reporting. All contributors are expected to meet the same editorial standards as our staff. For a full list of our editorial team, including their areas of expertise and contact details, visit Our Team.
