NewsPrism.co.uk is committed to accuracy. When we get something wrong, we put it right — promptly, transparently, and with a clear record of what changed. This Corrections Policy explains how we handle errors, how you can report them, and what to expect when you do.
Our commitment
We strive to publish reliable, well-sourced journalism. Mistakes happen, but when they do — whether a factual error, a misattribution, a misstatement of data, or an omission that materially affects understanding — we correct the record. Minor spelling or grammar mistakes are fixed silently. For anything that could mislead a reader, we issue a formal correction.
What counts as a correction
We distinguish between:
- Material errors — factual inaccuracies, misquotes, wrong figures, misstated laws or policies, incorrect names, dates, or locations that change the meaning of a story. These receive a published correction note.
- Update notes — new information that adds context or clarifies a developing story is added at the foot of the article with a label: “Update: This article was updated on [date] to include [information].”
- Minor errors — typos, punctuation, formatting or spelling mistakes that do not affect meaning. These are corrected without public note.
How to report an error
We encourage readers to tell us when something looks wrong. Please email corrections@newsprism.co.uk with:
- The article headline and URL
- The specific error you believe exists
- What you think the correct information should be (with a source, where possible)
- Your name and contact details (you may request anonymity)
You can also use our general contact form via /about-us/contact/. All reports are treated seriously and reviewed by our Standards & Fact-Checking team.
How we handle corrections
All correction requests are reviewed by Oliver Reeves, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead (oliver.reeves@newsprism.co.uk, +44 20 4587 6136). Oliver and his team verify the claim, check original source material, and consult the relevant editor or reporter. For complex factual disputes, we may reach out to external parties for clarification. Our team is listed at /our-team/.
We aim to acknowledge all correction requests within 5 working days. If a correction is straightforward, we will issue it within that window. Complex cases — requiring legal review, multiple source checks, or investigation — may take longer. We will keep you informed of progress.
Serious or systemic errors, including those with legal, reputational, or public-safety implications, are escalated immediately to Editor-in-Chief Victoria Harcourt (victoria.harcourt@newsprism.co.uk, +44 20 4587 6131).
How corrections appear
When a material error is corrected, we:
- Update the article body with the correct information
- Add a clear correction note at the top or bottom of the article, stating: “Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated [issue]. The article was updated on [date].”
- Where appropriate, we add a note in our newsletter or social media posts linking to the corrected article
We do not delete or rewrite articles without explanation. The original error and the correction remain discoverable to maintain transparency.
